South Western North Carolina Climate

Few climates anywhere in the world can match the year-round pleasant nature of South Western North Carolina's climate. The lack of seasonal extremes allows for frequent outdoor activities and comfortable living throughout the year. Among the most valued aspects of WNC's climate are the cool summer nights which have lured visitors to the area for generations. In the WNC area, July temperatures reflect an average daily high of 84 degrees and an average low of 62.4 degrees. Winter temperatures, while cool, are not uncomfortable. The average daily high in January is 47.5 degrees, while the average low is 26 degrees. Winter always brings some snow to the mountains, the average is around 11 inches each year. However, the amount of snow at any one time is rarely a major inconvenience and tends to lend charm to the winter season. Crews work around the clock in the event of snow to keep highways passable. Annual precipitation averages around 47.71 inches. The average relative humidity is about 70 percent in the summer and 66 percent during the winter.

Seasonal Weather

Spring: March 15 - June 15
Spring brings new life to the mountains. Frost is common through April 15th, and it has been known to snow as late as the end of April. Mornings are chilly and winds can add to the chill. April 15 to June 15, night temperatures in the higher elevations range from 40 to 50 degrees. Day temperatures range from 65 to 75 degrees.

Summer: June 15 - September 15
Summer turns the bold beauty of the rugged mountains to emerald green. Nighttime temperatures range from 55 to 65 degrees, with daytime temperatures ranging from 70 to 80 degrees in the higher elevations. Afternoon thundershowers are common.

Fall: September 15 - December 15
Fall announces the arrival of the leaf season, a collage of brilliant colors, painting the mountains with red and gold, peak in mid-to late October, night time temperatures range from 30 to 40 degrees in higher elevations, with possibility of 20 to 30 degrees from November 15 through December 15. Snow is likely in higher elevations (4,000 feet or higher) during this period. Daytime temperatures range from 60 to 70 degrees during late September, and 30 to 40 degrees in early December.

Winter: December 15 - March 15
Winter brings the warmth of friends gathering around a cozy fire. Temperatures at night may range from 0 to 20 degrees especially during January and February. March is very unpredictable; it could get quite cold during the first two weeks. Daytime temperatures throughout this period usually range from 20 to 35 degrees. However, temperatures may reach the 50s. Snow is common throughout this period.

Amenities include all-glass front wall facing the view, a rock faced fireplace stove with gas logs, Washer/Dryer, central Heat/Air, a well equipped kitchen with microwave, coffee maker and dishwasher.

Entertainment amenities include a four person hot tub spa on the deck, a large screen TV with Directv satellite system, DVD and VCR player.

Deck has two comfortable Lafuma recliners, two camping chairs and a charcoal grill. Bring your charcoal.
